Troy Foods awarded Sword of Honour from British Safety Council

Troy Foods, the leading vegetable and salad producer, has been awarded the prestigious Sword of Honour by the British Safety Council in recognition of its commitment to excellent health and safety management standards.

Since starting out as a vegetable wholesale back in the 1920s, the Yorkshire-based business has become known as a leader in the supply of freshly prepared vegetables for ready meals and retail packs in the UK’s major supermarkets; and for processing value added lines such as dressed salads, dips and mayonnaise and dressings to retailers and food service groups.

With a 600-strong team based across its three sites in Leeds, the third generation family business this year put in place a three year plan to ensure that occupational health and safety is a priority across the company.

“Health and safety has always been central to our company culture, but the journey we have embarked on this year has moved it up a level and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement in this area as part of our focus on delivering quality and excellence,” comments James Kempley, general manager of Troy Foods.

“Our initiative goes beyond the traditional approach of simply preventing harm and we have instead adopted a much more proactive and comprehensive stance. With a focus on learning from our mistakes, we are committed to ensuring that the best H&S provision is accessible to everyone involved in the business; we are dedicated to protecting the welfare of all staff, contractors, workers, partners and visitors.

“Our journey has already got off to a flying start having been awarded Five Star accreditation from the British Safety Council back in January, and to have now been awarded the highly-sought after Sword of Honour is quite an accolade - all our team should be proud of the part they’ve played in helping us to achieve it.”
