Stokesley student scores with England call-up

A Stokesley teenager has been selected to play football for England.

Stokesley School student Emma Brown will play for the Under 16 England ladies football squad in the New Year.

Emma was chosen to play against Norway in November after attending two England training camps earlier in the year as well as regional training sessions. However, injury ruled her out of this first game but Emma has subsequently being chosen to play in the next match early in 2017.

As well as being a talented football player, Emma also plays cricket for Yorkshire and represents the school in netball, hockey, athletics, cross country, rounders and tennis.

In October, Emma was named Young Sports Person of the year at the Hambleton and Richmondshire Sports Awards and the 15-year-old also recently received the Stokesley School ‘Victrix Ludorum’ award for sport.

Emma said: “Being able to represent my school and my local area is always a proud achievement but being selected to play for England ladies football squad is incredible. I can’t wait to be back to full fitness early in the New Year and get out there to play at my very best for my school, the area, my family and also the country.”

Jo Stewart, a PE teacher at Stokesley School, said: “Emma’s achievements are quite simply outstanding. We’re all so proud of what she is doing. Not only does she represent her school and her region but she has now been chosen as one of only a handful of girls to play at an international level and we all wish her well for 2017.”
