Flybe passengers digging deep for Cancer Research UK

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, began a month-long collection (starting on December 1st) on board all flights to raise vital research funds in aid of its charity partner, Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens. Since 2008, Flybe staff and customers have generously donated more than £680,000 to Cancer Research UK to help in the fight to beat cancer sooner.

Donations made by passengers and collected by Flybe’s cabin crew throughout December will fund life-saving research to find cures and kinder treatments for children, teens and young adults diagnosed with cancer. Every day around five children (0-14 years) in the UK are diagnosed with cancer. However, despite improving survival rates, cancer is the leading cause of death across this age group.

Flybe’s Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Amy Valcik, said: “Cancer touches so many people, whether personally or through friends and family, and Flybe is proud to be supporting Cancer Research UK again on-board our flights. Over the last eight years, our passengers and staff have helped to raise a fantastic amount of money to support our charity partner’s exemplary work with the fight against cancer. We are sure that this year our passengers will step up again and, through their generosity, help us raise more than ever before.”

Claire Rowney, director of Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens, said: “In the UK, around 1,800 children and 2,400 teens and young adults are diagnosed with cancer each year. Around three-quarters of children (0-14 year-olds) with cancer now survive beyond ten years and many children cancer survivors have benefited from research funded by Cancer research UK.”

“There is still more to be done to bring forward the day that every child survives cancer and we are very thankful for Flybe’s support. We’re encouraging all passengers flying over the festive period to dig deep and donate to a worthwhile cause.”
