Revealed: The six partners who will lead Digital Catapult’s IoT network roll-out
Digital Catapult has announced the six partners who will take part in its IoTUK Boost programme to test and develop Internet of Things (IoT) innovations on its new IoT network.
The tech network put out a call earlier in the year for tech firms interested in testing their IoT technology on its Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN), which it plans to roll out across the UK.
Linked with its Thing Connected initiative which launched in London in September, the selected SMEs will work together with the Euston-headquartered group to develop a UK-wide IoT network, starting with 50 base stations to be dotted around the capital.
With innovations in healthcare, traffic and transport, energy management and environmental sensing all expected to be unlocked by the new programme, the businesses will work in tandem to build up the new networks in the hope that they become a ‘testbed’ for IoT businesses and entrepreneurs.
The selected startups include:
- AB Open, the open source and technical communities consultancy that specialises in embedded and wireless systems
- Advanced Digital Innovation (UK) Ltd, a product development and technology innovation consultancy
- CW (Cambridge Wireless), who are a technology community interested in the business-focused development and application of wireless and connected devices technologies
- High Tech Bristol and Bath CIC which works with tech firms to promote, enhance and develop technology
- Sensor City, a technical innovation centre which fosters the creation, development, production and promotion of cutting edge sensor technologies.
The STFC Hartree Centre, which works on the adoption and application of high performance computing, data science, big data analytics and cognitive techniques in industry.
Dr. Jeremy Silver, Chief Executive Officer, Digital Catapult, commented: “Internet of Things is no longer a vision of the future, it’s here and transforming the world around us. By 2020 the IoT marketplace in the UK could be worth £20bn.
“Boost has a key role to play in making the most of this opportunity, and we are delighted to be working with our six selected partners from across the UK to achieve this.
“For the potential of IoT to be truly realised it is vital that we see regional IoT industry growth, and develop applications relevant for the local community.”
