Hospice awarded £1,000 by Teesside housing firm

A hospice has netted a £1,000 windfall from a leading regional housebuilder.

Alice House Hospice in Hartlepool was awarded the money by Persimmon Homes Teesside and will go towards keeping the cause’s services going.

It costs the charity £2.34million to run with 23 per cent of it Government funded. However it still faces a shortfall of £5,000 per day.

Alice House was awarded the money after it applied for the housing firm’s Community Champions Scheme. It began last year allowing charities and groups to apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.

Carol Sennett, a corporate fundraiser at Alice House, said: “We are an independent charity that provides free specialist care and support to people and families affected by incurable illnesses throughout Hartlepool and east Durham.

“We rely heavily on the support of the community and business sector to achieve this and ensure that the needs of our patients are met.

“The Community Champions donation of £1,000 is be a huge help to us at Alice House. This amount of money can be used to fund books, toys and tray therapy materials for bereaved children accessing our counselling services or two full weekends of doctor on call service.

“We thank Persimmon Homes for the donation.”

Joan Peart, head of sales for Persimmon Homes Teesside, added: “Alice House does so much for the people of Teesside and we wanted to help such a vital service with a donation.

“The staff work incredibly hard to support people with or affected by incurable illness and it is our privilege to contribute to their cause.

“Seeing what the money can be used to buy brings home how important it is and wish the hospice all the best.”
