£1,000 donation to help fix up charity’s home

A mental health charity looking to renovate its base has been awarded £1,000 by Persimmon Homes.

Mental Health Support in Hambleton & Richmondshire (MHS) based in Northallerton is looking to modernise the house it uses to help support individuals.

It requires upgrading and thanks to a windfall from Persimmon Homes Teesside the cause, that has supported people in Hambleton and Richmondshire for 30 years, is now a step closer to creating its dream hub for the community.

MHS were awarded the cash after they applied for the housing firm’s Community Champions scheme. It began last year allowing charities and groups to apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Nationally Persimmon Homes donated a total of £750,000 across the UK in the first 12 months of programme.

Malcolm Ashman, Manager at MHS, said:

“The objectives of our work is to help restore people’s well being and independence after episodes of illness and to provide a range of practical support where needed.

“MHS has occupied a detached house since 1996 on a full repairing lease but given the long passage of time the project now is to upgrade the premises to more modern and welcoming standards with contemporary equipment and furnishings.

“The donation from Persimmon Homes is a welcome boost and we thank them for their contribution.”

Joan Peart, head of sales for Persimmon Homes Teesside, added: “The work that MHS has done in the local community for the past 30 years has been fantastic.

“It is important services like theirs continue and when we found out about this project we wanted to contribute in any way we could.

“We look forward to seeing the project when is finally completed.”
