SureCare Christmas Jumpers raise Lily Foundation funds

A leading care company is raising much-needed funds to help people suffering from an inherited chronic illness.

SureCare, which has its head office in Chester and 40 branches and franchises across the UK, is raising awareness of Mitochondrial Disease.

The disease affects one in every 4,000 people and causes debilitating physical, developmental and cognitive disabilities. The disease is progressive and there is no cure.

Common symptoms are poor growth, loss of muscle coordination, seizures, vision and hearing loss and organ failure.

SureCare organised a Christmas Jumper Day with the aim of raising a minimum of £1,000 for the Lily Foundation, a charity which raises funds to support research into the disease, raise awareness and assist families living with the condition.

Rachel Gallagher, Business Development Manager at SureCare, said: “Mitochondrial Disease is a cause close to the heart of SureCare as the son of one of our dedicated care workers suffers from the condition.

“We asked everyone across the SureCare network of branches and franchises to wear their favourite festive jumper and make a donation to this extremely worthwhile cause.

“Mitochondrial Disease is probably the most common disease you have never heard of. It claims more lives than childhood cancer but is often misdiagnosed and misunderstood.

“The work of the Lily Foundation is hugely important in improving public awareness and supporting the families of those affected.”

Last year, SureCare raised almost £3,000 to help SureCare client Adam Bladen, who is affected by muscular dystrophy. The money raised helped purchase a new mechanical arm which enables Adam to live as independently as possible.
