Walter Thompson helps transform Christmas for youngsters
A LEADING regional construction company has been helping to give disadvantaged children a Christmas to remember.
Employees at Northallerton-based Walter Thompson have been collecting gifts and donations for TFM Radio’s Cash for Kids, Mission Christmas charity over the past few weeks.
The company has been running similar appeals for four years, and organiser Tessa Harker said she was delighted with this year’s response.
“I’m always amazed at the generosity shown by staff, family, friends and customers who every year dig deep to help our appeal,” said Tessa, a contract administrator at family-owned Walter Thompson.
“The idea started four years ago when I was driving into work and heard the appeal on the radio. I just felt I wanted to do something – there will be children waking up on Christmas Day with little or no presents, and in this day and age that can’t be right.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has so generously contributed – they should know that their donation can literally make Christmas for a local youngster,” Tessa added.
Paul Hammerton, Managing Director of Walter Thompson, said he was proud of the generosity shown by the company’s employees: “Once again, we’ve had an outstanding response to our appeal.
“Christmas should be about children, and it’s heartbreaking to think that many youngsters in the region will be going without presents – or will be relying on Mission Christmas. Hopefully the presents we’ve collected can make a difference.”
Cash for Kids was established in 1996 as the official charity of TFM Radio & Magic 1170, and their aim is to make a long-term difference to, and enhance the lives of, disabled and disadvantaged children and young people in the South Durham, Teesside and North Yorkshire Region.
