Musicians treat residents to festive show
Residents at a local Chorley care home were treated to a special festive surprise by two professional musicians.
Talented duo Laura McKinlay and Ruairidh MacMillan visited Laura’s grandmother, Maureen Houghton, at The Lodge at Bucksaw Retirement Village, Chorley, and brought along their violins for an impromptu performance at the home.
Laura, who works as at the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra on an education project called ‘in harmony’ and Ruairidh, who plays with a band called the ‘Blazin’ Fiddles’ entertained residents and staff with a number of their favourite tunes, including Christmas songs.
Benjamin Markham, community lead at The Lodge, said: “The residents really enjoyed the live music, especially the Christmas songs. It created a lovely atmosphere and got everyone into the festive spirit.
“You could see Maureen was beaming with pride to see her granddaughter perform in front of all of her friends. We get a lot of visitors here at The Lodge, but it’s especially nice to welcome family members who have travelled a long way to see their loved ones at this time of year.”
Buckshaw Retirement Village comprises three distinctive living communities: The Lodge, a specialist care home for older people and those with dementia, The Grange, an assisted living facility, and The Court, which is privately owned independent living apartments.
Buckshaw is part of The Hica Group, a not for profit organisation, which operates a portfolio of 19 residential care homes, five of which are for people with a learning disability, along with two retirement villages. The company also runs a home care service providing approximately 11,500 hours of support and care from four regional offices in the North of England.
