Keeping the elderly and vulnerable warm and well
Salix Homes’ new Neighbourhood Teams have been spreading festive cheer by delivering winter packs to its most elderly and vulnerable tenants.
The Salford social housing provider is handing out winter essentials which includes a blanket, hat, gloves, thermometer and flask, as part of its ‘Keep Warm, Keep Well’ scheme.
The teams are also giving recipients advice on how to stay warm and healthy during the chilly months, as well as a lending hand to ensure these tenants are claiming the benefits they’re entitled to and support on what to do if they trip or fall.
One lady who is delighted with her winter pack is 97-year-old Irene Radcliffe.
Irene, who lives in one of our Ordsall homes, said: “Receiving this winter pack off Salix Homes is very kind and it’s lovely for them to think about me at this time of the year and come and visit me.”
Mr Elliott, from Broughton added: “This winter pack is great. 100% effort from Salix Homes who are a very good landlord.”
Sue Sutton, executive director of operations at Salix Homes, added: “The winter weather can often bring financial worries and social isolation to some people and that’s why we carry out our ‘Keep Warm, Keep Well’ scheme, which is now in its eighth year, to ease those concerns.
“Our Neighbourhood Teams have been busy contacting and visiting our most elderly and vulnerable tenants, like Irene, to let them know that support and a winter pack is available.
“However, if you’re a tenant that would like one of our winter packs please get in touch with us.
“If you also know of someone who may be alone this winter or is unable to leave the house; could you pop round for a cup of tea to see if they are OK, make sure their bins are out on an icy morning, perhaps, or help with their shopping.
“I’m sure that person would be extremely grateful.”
Our Neighbourhood Teams are part of ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’, our new way of working for our customers and communities.
