Glasgow To Host New Year Event For Scotland's Vegan Community

With the New Year celebrations fast approaching, Scotland’s Vegan community will come together this month for a unique event in the heart of the world’s most Vegan-Friendly City.

Save Movement Scotland, Earthlings Experience Scotland and Go Vegan Scotland have confirmed it will welcome the nation’s vegans to The Admiral Bar in Glasgow from 8 pm on 30th December to celebrate the New Year early in a gathering that has billed as a celebration of the community’s achievements in 2016.

Happy Moo Year - aptly named by the Admiral’s owner Dave Ross after Glasgow’s Animal Right’s activist Lynn Jolly saved a cow from slaughter in November – will use the funds raised from the event to bring world famous animal rights activist James Aspey over from his native Australia for a series of talks, workshops and vigils in Scotland Autumn next Year.

Lynn Jolly, the brainchild of the event who recently launched the Bohemian Hippy Vegan networking site, explains:

“Happy Moo Year will be a celebration of a truly amazing 2016 for this movement where we can all come together and have a really good time. Glasgow is renowned for being the nation’s Vegan capital, so we couldn’t ask for a better setting and The Admiral has very kindly given us the venue for free in a strong show of support. We have lots of very active activists in Glasgow and we hope this will be a night to remember for all of us.

“We’ve managed to secure the DJ’s who run and perform at the Strangeways club night, DJs Robert, Carlo and Hugh, so the event will feature music from Vegan Music icon Morrisey and his band The Smiths as well as a mix of classic indie and rock.

“We also have a specially recorded video message from James Aspey to play on the night, and we have a truly amazing raffle with some of the best prizes ever, including a 1 hour DJ set.”

Lynn Jolly, who has dedicated a large proportion of her life to animal rights activism and spreading the Vegan word, has urged the Vegan community to attend the event so that the collective can bring James Aspey to Scotland in February and host the “Vegan Disco” again next next year.

James - who shot to vegan fame after he took at 356 vow of silence to raise awareness for the voiceless animals of this world - now spends his life giving motivational talks in schools, universities and all around the world on animal rights and veganism, having defeated cancer and a well-documented drug addiction.

“James wants to hit the streets of Glasgow and get involved with our activist groups to do as many talks and as much activism as possible when he comes to see us all in February,” adds Lynn.

“He says he is honoured that we’re doing Happy Moo Year to raise the money to bring him over and says he will go out on the streets with us every day if possible.

“James has always inspired me and was near the top of my list for Inspirational Vegans on the Bohemian Hippy website.

“He is relentless in his work, and not only does he spread the vegan/animal rights message, but he spreads a message of love and peace too. I very much relate to James because he prefers that peaceful approach to activism and finds answers and solace in meditation.”
