Haywoods Trimmings relocates into the Old Engine Room in former Emmerdale mill

Haywoods Trimmings, a company which offers a bespoke service to interior designers, is moving into Sunny Bank Mills, the mill complex between Leeds and Bradford.

The expanding company produces traditional and contemporary tassels, tiebacks, braids, ropes and fringes for leading interior designers throughout the UK and across the world.

Originally based in Rawdon, Haywoods Trimmings has relocated to the refurbished mills in Farsley, where ITV’s Emmerdale and Heartbeat were filmed. The business has taken 556 sq ft of office space in the newly-renovated Old Engine Room on a five-year lease.

During the past six years, Sunny Bank Mills has been transformed into a modern office complex, which is now home to 68 companies.

John Gaunt, joint managing director of Edwin Woodhouse, the owners of Sunny Bank Mills, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Haywoods Trimmings to Sunny Bank Mills.

“This is an excellent example of a quality business being attracted to a quality business environment. Haywoods Trimmings’ arrival underlines the versatility and flexibility of space at Sunny Bank Mills, which is attracting an exciting breadth of occupiers.

“It is also very appropriate that a modern company with links to the past is moving into our historic mills, which were at the forefront of the county’s textile industry in the 19th and 20th centuries. The symmetry is striking – and is a resounding endorsement of the way in which we are keeping our heritage alive.

“This letting means that the Old Engine Room, a two-office building, has only 678 sq ft of quality space available to lease. Two previous tenants, Grove Print and The Production Company have expanded elsewhere on site and we are already experiencing serious interest in the remaining space.”

Richard Haywood, managing director of Haywoods Trimmings, explained: “We were looking for suitable premises in the area and came across Sunny Bank Mills in Farsley, where the recently-refurbished Old Engine Room had become available. I was impressed the high standards of the premises.

“We supply interior designers through the world with handmade, bespoke furnishing trimmings. The business is run by myself and Creative Director Jo Coulter. We have been commissioned on a wide range of projects over the years including residential properties and grand country homes, luxury hotels, super yachts, the film and theatre industries, historic restorations and Royal palaces.

“Sunny Bank Mills is a great base to work from and wonderful to see it attracting so many creative businesses. The landlords, John and William Gaunt, are very helpful and proactive. Their philosophy of developing the mills to encourage new businesses whilst at the same time retaining the mill’s heritage is admirable.”

The joint marketing agents for Sunny Bank Mills are Leeds property consultants JLL.
