£1.32m boost to build 44 more Salford homes

Salix Homes has secured £1.32million from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to build a further 44 new affordable homes in Salford.

The funding boost comes from the Shared Ownership and Affordable Homes Programme 2016 to 2021 (SOAHP) – supporting the social housing association’s commitment to help those people who may want to own their own property, but maybe struggle with affordability.

Greater Manchester is receiving £126m of the initial £1.3billion SOAHP pot.

Lee Sugden, chief executive at Salix Homes, said: “We’re delighted with this allocation from the HCA and it demonstrates our long-term commitment to creating new affordable homes where they are most needed.

“Demand for affordable homes in Salford has never been as high and we are delighted that this grant will allow us to provide these much needed homes.

“We understand that many people want to own their own home and are finding it increasingly difficult to purchase one.

“So we’re working hard, creating and improving homes, as well as opening up different avenues and options for our customers.”

Sajid Javid MP, communities secretary said: “Our newly expanded affordable housing programme, turbo-charged by a multi-billion pound investment, will allow housing associations to build more homes in places where they are most needed, particularly for families who are just about managing.”
