Work begins on future ‘thriving community’ in Salford
Building work has started on Carpino Place, a new townhouse development in Salford.
Members of the English Cities Fund (ECf), a joint venture between Muse Developments, Legal & General and the Homes & Communities Agency, joined local councillors on site for an official sod-cutting ceremony.
Named last month after Archbishop Francesco Carpino, the project forms part of the wider Salford Central regeneration effort spearheaded by the ECf.
Once complete, the multi-million-pound scheme will comprise 22 three-storey townhouses.
Carpino Place follows on from the Georgian-style Timekeepers Square development and the 97-home Vimto Gardens project.
Muse development director Phil Mayall said: “Our ultimate aim is to build a thriving community in the Chapel Street area and, with Vimto Gardens being fully sold and the first residents now moving into Timekeepers Square, we’re really starting to see this take shape.
“We’re thrilled to have commenced work on the next stage of this with Carpino Place and are sure it will be a stand-out part of Salford’s ongoing transformation.”
ECf is delivering the scheme in conjunction with Salford City Council.
Paul Dennett, the mayor of Salford, commented: “Salford is growing at a rapid rate. The city is being transformed with desperately needed new homes for the community and the construction of them is creating jobs for local people.
“I look forward to visiting when they are finished and welcoming the first tenants into their brand new homes.”
Once finished, Salford Central is forecast create around 11k new jobs with the delivery of 849 homes, 390 hotel rooms and over 2 million sq ft of commercial space.
The Carpino Place homes are being built by John Turner Construction and were designed by Buttress Architects.
