Seedrs partners with Chinese VC for entrepreneurship prize
London-based crowdfunding network Seedrs has partnered with a major Chinese venture capital (VC) firm for one of the largest international entrepreneurship competitions.
The China Innovation and Entrepreneurship International Competition (IEIC) will be coming to London on 28 March 2017, and the crowdfunding platform is set to host the UK event at its headquarters in conjunction with InteBridge Capital.
Supported by the PRC’s Ministry of Science and Technology and the Shenzhen Government, the competition gives startups the opportunity to win a share of £1m in equity free cash, with 64 cash prizes up for grabs across its eight national-level events.
Other competitions are to be held in the USA, Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, India and Germany.
Following an initial application stage, twenty entrepreneurs will be invited to pitch their businesses at the national competition, with the ten top performers flown to Shenzhen in April to go against vye for the £100k cash prize.
Jason Wu Managing Partner at InteBridge Capital commented: “Seedrs was the obvious choice for InteBridge as our UK partner, not least because the business has garnered a lot of respect in the VC world, but also because the team is so passionate about the startup ecosystem and really understands the innovative businesses coming out of Britain.
“We look forward to launching the competition and uncovering some seriously exciting talent in the UK.”
Seedrs Founder, Jeff Lynn, added: “IEIC is building bridges amongst global startup communities and will be an invaluable experience to ambitious young business founders.
“Seedrs itself is a company with a truly international outlook, with investors and entrepreneurs from more than 60 countries using the platform, so it is fitting that we can offer innovative startups in the UK a global investment opportunity.”
