Trafford exhibition space EventCity posts record year

Largescale exhibition space EventCity has reported a record year of trading for 2016 after seeing visitor numbers leap 17% compared to 2015.

The venue, located next to intu Trafford Centre at TraffordCity, signed 18 new shows over the last 12 months, including the World Snooker Championships, the Muslim Lifestyle show and annual conferences hosted by retailers Bargain Booze and B&M.

Footfall at EventCity continued to rise throughout the year, culminating in a record December with a year-on-year increase of 67%.

For 2017, the venue has already signed seven new shows, including the multi-million pound Dinosaurs in the Wild attraction.

EventCity MD Andy Orr said: “Culminating a record year, and only our fifth year in business, we’re thrilled to be signing some of the biggest names in the industry.

“We have a fantastic team at EventCity who work tirelessly to make every show a huge success and it’s very rewarding to see the venue continue to go from strength to strength. Our ever increasing visitor figures clearly reflect that.”

He added: “Securing the multi-million pound Dinosaurs in the Wild, along with a number of world class sporting events this year, is another key step forward for the business and shows we’re now putting EventCity on the world map as a first-class event space.”

Construction work on a nearby 220-bedroom hotel, designed to serve those visiting EventCity, is already well underway.

According to developers, the project is the first ‘modular’ hotel in the North West.

Looking ahead, Andy said his team is always looking at ways to evolve EventCity’s offer.

He continued: “We recently took 5,850 sq m of floor space and turned it into a cutting edge dedicated conference and dining facility to meet growing demand.

“As one of the fastest growing event spaces in the UK, we’re excited to see what happens next.”
