Northern Design Centre to host creative business talks this Spring
The Northern Design Centre, Gateshead’s business centre and creative hub, has announced the launch of a series of creative business talks this Spring.
Following on from the Design NOW symposium in October 2016, the series will feature four successful designers turned business leaders who will provide insights on innovation in the industry.
First up will be Bryan Edmondson, who, after studying graphic design at Newcastle polytechnic moved to London and in 1996 established the renowned design consultancy SEA.
Bryan’s work has been widely published and received recognition in both national and international awards along with the highly prestigious nomination for the Design Museum, Designs of the Year 2012.
Other designers in the series include Keith Stephenson and Mark Hampshire who studied at Newcastle Polytechnic and Newcastle University, before going on to launch Mini Moderns in 2006.
The interiors brand specialises in applied pattern across a range of products including wallpapers, fabrics, cushions, enamelware and ceramics.
Leeds-based Michael and Nicky Place from design studio Build, who have recently returned to the North after 15 years in London, will also be part of the lineup.
Studio Builds’ roster of international clients includes Virgin America, Made.com, Getty Images and Nike, as well as a number of independent businesses, designer-makers, and events both in the UK and abroad.
Councillor Gary Haley, Gateshead Council Cabinet Member for Economy, believes the event embodies what the Centre stands for.
He explained: “Not only has [the Centre] have high quality event spaces to host innovative and thought provoking talks like this, but is also home to some of the best design talent in the digital and creative sector in the region.”
Karen Nairstone, director of Design Event, added: “It’s great to be working with the Northern Design Centre following on from the hugely successful Design NOW symposium which created a real buzz.
“We are excited to be bringing outstanding speakers to the region to share their insights”
