Great Grass joins forces with Terracotta Warriors

A MANCHESTER artificial grass firm will play a unique role in the city’s Chinese New Year celebrations.

Great Grass will be laying 320 square metres of artificial grass under the feet of The Lanterns of the Terracotta Warriors – a travelling art installation originally commissioned for the Beijing Olympics that has already travelled the globe.

It features 40 brightly coloured, two metre high, lantern replicas of the Terracotta Army that guards the tomb of the first Emperor of China.

And while it might not be the biggest project the Great Grass team have handled, it will have its own unique set of challenges.

Mike Allen, Managing Director of Failsworth-based Great Grass, said: “We were approached by The Heart of Manchester BID to take on the job, having worked with them on other projects and they had been happy with the outstanding level of service they had received.

“This project is somewhat more challenging than an artificial grass installation in somebody’s home or business due to the location of the event in one of the city’s most popular areas - Exchange Square near Selfridges.

“However, this isn’t the first rodeo for our team of highly trained artificial grass installers who will be sure to install the artificial grass quickly in the limited window we have before most people even are awake.”

The artificial grass will be down for the duration of the celebrations, which take place across the city centre from Thursday January 26, 2017 until Sunday January 29, 2017.

Secured by Manchester’s Business Improvement District, The Heart of Manchester BID, The Lanterns of the Terracotta Warriors exhibition will be open to the public between 10am and 9pm each day. Visitors will be able to walk amongst the lanterns which bring together two key features of Chinese art and culture – the compelling story of the Terracotta Army alongside the 2000 year old tradition of lantern making.

This latest project comes after a hugely successful year for Great Grass, the country’s leading supplier of artificial grass.

Previous clients include Manchester City Football Club, Harrods and Crufts, as well as a host of exhibitions and eventing firms. Great Grass recently launched their first franchise.
