Tottenham Hotspur set to call Wembley home for 2017/18 following council application

Arrangements for Tottenham Hotspur’s home games next season are set to be confirmed imminently after Wembley Stadium applied for more full-capacity events to be held at the national stadium.

An application has been submitted to Brent Council by Wembley for 31 extra events at the ground between 1 August 2017 and 31 July 2018 which, if approved, opens the door for 19 Premier League fixtures and up to 12 cup games to be played at the stadium next season.

The application all but confirms that the North London club intend to call Wembley their home next year after remaining tight-lipped about whether this season would in fact be their last at White Hart Lane.

According to the Evening Standard, the club have until March to rubber-stamp the move and confirm to the FA where they intend to host their home fixtures next year.

The club’s new 61,000-seater stadium is currently under construction ahead of its 2018 opening.

In a supporting statement, the club said: “In preparation for our proposed temporary relocation to Wembley, the Club can confirm that we shall be supporting Wembley National Stadium Limited (WNSL) in their planning application to the London Borough of Brent to increase the number of events at which the stadium can be opened at full capacity for the 2017-18 season.

“There has been a huge demand for tickets from our fans and the residents of Brent during our four European fixtures hosted at Wembley so far this season and the prospect of all Club games being played in front of a full capacity stadium would allow many more to have the chance to watch all of our Premier League and cup games.”
