Fire and Rescue upgrade well underway

A specialist building services company has been appointed to re-develop Hexham Fire and Rescue Station.

Northumberland County Council (NCC) and Northumberland Healthcare Facilities Management Ltd (NHFML) have appointed contractors to carry out the works for Northumberland Fire & Rescue Service (NFRS).

The re-development project includes the construction of a new build extension and refurbishment works including the conversion of the existing facilities management and accommodation block and external works for the Community Fire Station, Fire house, Training Tower and general training yard as well as the doctors’ residence for Hexham General Hospital. The site is located within the grounds of Hexham General Hospital, adjacent to the ambulance station.

Working with Esh Construction, Opus will be involved in the installation of all new mechanical & electrical building services throughout Fire and Rescue Station including the stripping out of existing services.

The company recently announced growth of over 50% for the last 12 months and MD Gavin Richardson, said: “Our brief is to create a safe and secure all weather working environment for NFRS including the provision of community facilities, modern offices, training and meeting spaces as well as refurbishment works on the main Fire Station including the training building and tower.
