Newcastle Pub Listed In Top 50 Gastropubs UK
One of Newcastle’s most popular pubs has won further national recognition by being named among 2017’s Top 50 gastropubs in Britain.
The Broad Chare, on Newcastle’s historic Quayside, took the No. 19 spot at the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs Awards ceremony at Anglian Country Inns’ site in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, on Monday January 30.
Organised by The Publican’s Morning Advertiser, the awards have become a prestigious indicator of the quality of existing and new gastropubs around the country. Morning Advertiser food and drink editor Nicholas Robinson said: “Yet again, the standard of entries for these awards was phenomenally high, proving, once again, the outstanding quality of food and service available in our sector.”
Voting is decided among hundreds of food experts – including prominent operators, food writers, catering development managers and executives, celebrity and top industry chefs, along with pub and hospitality company bosses.
Manager Steve Dunn, who attended the awards ceremony, said: “To list 9 places higher than last year in the country’s Top 50 Gastropubs is a great achievement for us and reflects the team effort among both the kitchen and front of house staff. It also reflects the ethos across the 21 Hospitality Group of consistently aiming to deliver skilful cooking and satisfying food served in a warm, comfortable environment.
“The Broad Chare offer and approach is simple – we are first and foremost a pub focussed on offering a great beer list and honest seasonal food.”
This is the latest accolade for the Newcastle pub, a creative partnership with Live Theatre, which last year retained its coveted Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide 2017. Bib Gourmands are awarded to dining establishments offering ‘exceptional good food at moderate prices’.
The Broad Chare, featuring bar snacks, lighter bites and a Dish of the Day downstairs and a full dining room menu upstairs, has won a string of accolades since it opened in 2011 and is the only pub in Newcastle to feature in the Great Britain and Ireland Michelin Guide 2017.
