Ovo Spaces journey into virtual reality

AWARD winning Sheffield commercial interior design and fit-out specialist Ovo Spaces is taking clients into a new dimension with the launch of pioneering new virtual reality technology.

Instead of simply showing clients graphic designs for a new project, the Ovo team now give them a taste of what their new space will look like with the support of the sort of technology which is increasingly common in the entertainment world but still a rarity in the business community.

Ovo Spaces has always been at the forefront of the latest technology and for many years has been using and developing systems to create intelligent 3D models to inform and communicate project designs, enabling a collaborative approach to the successful delivery of projects.

And the next step was the adoption of the latest Oculus Rift virtual reality technology, enabling clients to experience their new space from the earliest stages of a project.

By putting on their Virtual Reality goggles, clients are transported to their new development, they traverse their exterior and car in their car park, through their new reception, sit at their boardroom table and check out their new bespoke designed kitchen.

“Clients are surprised at first when we hand them the goggles but they are very quickly won over,” said Ovo Sales and Marketing Manager Rebecca Wilshire.

“Virtual reality is quite simply the next phase in the story of design and it’s a big step forward even from looking at a 3D design on a computer screen.

“You are no longer looking at a design - you actually become part of it and, therefore, have a much greater understanding of how the concept will work.

“It feels very real, so real in fact that clients reach out to touch virtual reality work surfaces, shield their faces as they zoom through doors and even move out of the way to avoid bumping into VR staff members dotted around the building.

“As a company we have invested greatly in enhancing the client experience and from the feedback we have had, it’s clear that virtual reality really does make a very positive impact.”
