Housebuilder’s £1,000 boost for children’s charity in Nottingham

A children’s charity in Nottingham that works to improve physical and social wellbeing for youngsters has been awarded £1,000 by Persimmon Homes.

The housebuilder donated the cash to Nottingham Play Forum (PlayWorks) with the money looking to help secure the long-term future of the charity.

PlayWorks delivers free play opportunities for children in areas of high deprivation offering inclusive activities to a wide range of children, including those with additional support needs, young people at risk of offending, children with disabilities and children of refugee and migrant backgrounds.

The organisation, which has helped over 12,000 children and young people in and around Nottingham in the last 12 months, applied for funding through Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme. The initiative began in 2015 allowing charities and groups to apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match the money they have already raised themselves. Nationally Persimmon Homes has donated more than £1 million.

Ellen Smith, Service Development Manager at PlayWorks, said: “It is our aim to help children from deprived backgrounds flourish and get all the support they can. “We have directly supported more than 12,000 young people and their families in the Nottingham area in the last 12 months alone so we are aware how important our service is.

“We are currently looking to secure our long-term future and to do this we require a business development manager and marketing officer in order to substantially increase our trading income.

“The donation from Persimmon Homes puts us a step closer to that target and we’re really grateful for the contribution.”

Nadine O’Dowd, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes North Midlands, added: “The work that Nottingham Play Forum has done for the community is to be commended and we wanted to help any way we could.”

“They are helping thousands of people in difficult situations and it is important they receive the support they deserve.

“As always it was a difficult decision to select our Community Champions, but I would encourage any charity or organisation that missed out this time to apply again.”
