Revealed: Details of new QPR ground take shape as club hunt Old Oak alternative

Championship football club, QPR, have admitted they are hunting for alternative locations for a potential new stadium following delays to the massive regeneration project at Old Oak where the club were planning to develop their new ground.

The club’s board have confirmed that they have looked into the possibility of building a new 30,000-seater stadium on the current site of the Linford Christie Stadium, with a partnership with Thames Valley Harriers touted as a potential option.

Situated a mile from QPR’s current Loftus Road home, the venue has hosted athletics since 1967 and was renamed the Linford Christie Stadium in 1993 after the sprinter won 100m gold at the Olympics.

According to the BBC, the club have already held preliminary talks with Hammersmith and Fulham council about building a new ground on the site along with an adjacent athletics track.

QPR had been hoping to build a new stadium at the massive Old Oak regeneration area, and were rumoured to have obtained planning permission to build 605 new homes in the area as part of a new stadium development.

Chief Executive Officer Lee Hoos commented on QPR’s website: “We are looking at all possible options to secure the future of the club in Hammersmith & Fulham and benefit the community.

“A potential partnership with an athletics club such as Thames Valley Harriers to create a new community stadium - and an adjacent athletics track - could bring huge benefits to both clubs, as well as to the local community that is our home.

“Before putting forward any formal proposal for a new community stadium we would consult fans, local residents, schools, charities and others to see how best we could achieve those aims.”
