Housebuilder helps children take part in birdwatch

Local housebuilder, David Wilson Homes, which has both the Bodington Manor and Applegarth Manor developments in Leeds, invited children from local primary schools to take part in some bird watching at its sites for the RSPB’s Big Schools’ Birdwatch, part of the world’s biggest wildlife survey.

David Wilson Homes announced a partnership with the RSPB in 2015 that sees the housebuilder working closely with the nature conservation charity to encourage its residents and local communities to make their homes more wildlife friendly.

Children from Adel Primary School were invited to Bodington Manor, whilst children from Oulton Primary School visited the Applegarth Manor site last week, and given ‘Spot it’ cards to help them recognise and learn about birds and other wildlife in the area. Bodington Manor is situated off a quiet leafy lane with mature trees and grassy verges, and Applegarth Manor is located off a quiet country lane, both providing perfect environments for children and residents to get closer to nature.

Dan Hardcastle, Sales Manager at Bodington Manor, said: “It was great to have children come along to Bodington Manor and Applegarth Manor, as the surrounding areas are the perfect setting to encourage them to learn about local wildlife and there was much excitement on the day! Mrs Gillespie, Science Coordinator and Year 6 teacher from Adel Primary School, said: “I am always keen to take advantage of any opportunity that enables us to take the children outside, helping them learn more about their local area in the natural environment. Bodington Manor has been an ideal setting for us to spot some of the local birds and the children really enjoyed it. It’s lovely to see that David Wilson Homes is encouraging bird watching with local schools and communities, and I look forward to hearing more from the children about what they’ve learned!”
