New Sheffield United development could see Blades fans living at the club's stadium

League One football club Sheffield United have revealed plans to develop land surrounding their ground which could see die-hard Blades fans given the chance to live a stone’s throw from Bramall Lane.

The club announced today that they have submitted a planning application for a new four-storey building at the corner of Cherry Street and Shoreham Street Corner that features residential units and a new Blades superstore.

Drawn up by the architects WCEC, the new scheme is a key part of the long-term business plan for the club by the owners, who have identified improvement and refurbishment of the club’s stadium and surrounding areas as a key platform for growth.

Other proposals currently under considerations include residential and commercial space at Chaucer’s Yard, a WCEC-designed eight-storey building adjacent to the Copthorne Hotel and a potential 3,200 seat expansion of the club’s Kop stand.

Club director, Simon McCabe, described today’s plans, which are to be project managed by Scarborough International Properties, as allowing fans to live the dream by giving them the opportunity to ‘live at the home of football’.

One of the club’s Directors, Scott McCabe, commented: “Significantly it is part of a route we are taking whereby we have identified several opportunities to further develop and improve the ground and the immediate surrounding area as we seek to build a broader commercial, leisure and entertainment offer, developing additional revenue streams to support the aim of supporting United’s return to the upper levels of the English game.”
