London Tech Week to welcome Hans Zimmer as part of its UK tech celebration
This year’s London Tech Week has unveiled a new-look programme featuring some headline grabbing events alongside its usual programme of talks, workshops and events.
The event, which takes place from 12-16 June, will be welcoming Oscar winning film score composer Hans Zimmer, famous for scores including Gladiator, The Dark Knight and The Lion King, for a live performance at the SSE Arena Wembley as part of an expanded programme of events for this year’s festivities.
Zimmer will be accompanied by his 15-piece studio band and choir for the concert on Thursday 15 June in the one of headline events of this year’s programme.
Also taking part for the first time will be the first-ever UK professional drone race at the Alexendra Palace when the Drone Racing League brings some of the world’s elite drone racers to London on 13 June, in an event which will be broadcast on Sky Sports Mix.
Both events are set to take the event, which is already Europe’s biggest tech event, out of the tech-centric realms of industry workshops and talks and out into the wider public consciousness.
As Tech London Advocates Founder, Russ Shaw, expanded, this year’s event will be particularly focused on projecting an outward looking perspective, alloyed to the Mayor’s key post-Brexit message of the capital still being open for business despite the EU Referendum.
He said: “London Tech Week is an opportunity to show the international tech community the wealth of talent, innovation and investment returns available in London’s digital sector.
“After three years of success, the festival is set to be bigger and better than ever in 2017, sending a clear message that London tech is open for business, aiming for significant growth and brimming with ambition.”
Also lined up for this year’s event are The Europas, Europe’s foremost tech startup awards, as well as the usual TechXLR8 events centered around key trends in technology and innovation, including Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics.
