Cheadle Hulme’s The Translation People records £4.5m turnover with rising European demand

Translation and language services provider The Translation People has achieved record annual revenues due to a surging demand in Europe.

The Cheadle Hulme-headquartered company increased its turnover from £3.9m to £4.5m in 2016, a year-on-year rise of 15%.

The Translation People saw sales in Denmark, Switzerland and Belgium more than double, while revenues in Italy and France shot up by over 40%. The UK and Germany also saw double-digit growth.

Among the best-performing areas were logistics, clinical trials, digital security and energy.

Founded by business partners Steve Wilde and David Nichols, The Translation People employs a team of 34 and this year celebrates its 10th anniversary.

To cope with the increasing demand for its services, the firm added over 200 professional translators to its worldwide network in 2016.

The company now works with close to 4,500 translators on websites, marketing material, corporate communications, contracts, technical manuals, software, videos and other projects.

Steve Wilde, managing director of The Translation People, said the business will target further double-digit turnover growth this year.

The US, France and Germany are leading the way, Steve confirmed, with pharmaceuticals, transport and technology among the most buoyant sectors.

Steve said: “We are extremely pleased to announce a record performance for the business in 2016, during which we won a number of key contracts against stiff competition.

“We are confident that these results will act as a springboard to achieve our growth plans in 2017. Our enhanced service offering and investment in technology have helped us to significantly expand our client base.

“The increasingly global nature of business means the opportunities for our clients can be anywhere in the world, leading to greater demand for our services.”

He continued: “At the same time, the fall in value of the pound over recent months has stimulated business from UK companies, as they have become more active and competitive on the international stage.

“Working with a good translation partner can really help businesses to capitalise on this situation by enabling them to engage with a global audience.”

Elsewhere, The Translation People has promoted Alan White to role of business development director. Alan joined the company in 2001 as an account manager, becoming business development manager in 2008.

Steve said of the appointment: “Alan’s knowledge of the industry and his ability to find innovative solutions for clients are second to none and he fully deserves his promotion to this key new role.”
