Commercial Real Estate Legal Association to launch North West branch

The Commercial Real Estate Legal Association (CRELA) is set to launch in the North West this month.

CRELA is seeking to develop a forum for the region’s commercial property lawyers to gather and share skills and ideas within the property legal community.

The organisation will begin with an event in Manchester on Thursday (February 23), where Pump Court Tax Chambers barrister Michael Thomas will discuss the VAT and Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) issues faced by property professionals.

Jim Purves, the head of law firm Hill Dickinson’s Manchester-based property team, welcomed the launch.

He said: “This new branch will work with a very strong property community based in Manchester and Liverpool to promote best practice in the North West and develop a forum for sharing ideas and skills akin to the PLA (Property Litigation Association).

“CRELA is a really useful organisation which offers a good source of training and a great network for people to come together to share ideas and practice tips – there is certainly an appetite and opportunity for the North West branch to build on this.”

CRELA, a not-for-profit professional organisation, was established in 2010. The organisation’s current president is the The Right Hon Lord Justice Lewison.
