Harrogate town centre building to be transformed into residential apartment scheme
Newby, the North Yorkshire-based property developer, has purchased the former headquarters building of education charity AQA in Harrogate town centre.
The property is set to be redeveloped into luxury residential apartments.
The site, which is centrally located at the junction of Kings Road and Springfield Avenue and adjacent to the Harrogate International Conference Centre, recently became vacant as AQA relocated to new offices.
Newby submitted an application for ‘Permitted Development Rights’ to convert the site into 35 residential apartments and this was granted on Christmas Eve 2016.
Nick Moody, co-founder of Newby, said: “We are delighted to complete the purchase of this building which is ideal for residential conversion. We know that there is strong demand for apartments in Harrogate Town Centre and this site is particularly well located in the centre of Harrogate and close to all its amenities.
“‘Springfield Court’ will include two and three bedroom apartments to cater for young professionals as well as families and downsizers. The scheme will have private gated access and parking for all units, with some apartments enjoying a private terrace or balcony.
“The specification will complement our completed schemes at Devonshire Place and Windsor Court and remain in keeping with our aim to provide the best quality apartments in Harrogate.”
Harrogate property agent Nicholls Tyreman will be marketing the apartments.
James Tyreman commented: “As Harrogate expands with new housing developments on the outskirts, town centre properties are becoming much more sought after.
“Secure gated developments that are well designed with top specification are in strong demand, especially in such a good location which is right on the doorstep of the renowned shopping, restaurants and nightlife that Harrogate offers.
“Springfield Court is a rare opportunity for buyers and we expect the scheme to sell quickly.”
With site clearance due to start imminently, Newby expects to complete the scheme by Autumn 2018 with a sales launch later this year.
