The Golden Fleece in Thirsk set to close for first phase of £1m transformation
The Golden Fleece Hotel in Thirsk is to temporarily close from next week as it embarks on a £1m transformation.
The property, which is one of the oldest coaching inns in England dating back to Tudor times, will be closing its doors for eleven weeks from the 6th March.
The £1m development programme will include the refurbishment of its restaurant, bar and accommodation.
The Golden Fleece Hotel was acquired in 2015 by Coaching Inn Group in a deal worth more than £5m.
Neil Doogan, hotel manager, said: “As a much loved, iconic local landmark, we wanted to maximise our prime location to ensure we are known as the go-to-place in Thirsk for family-friendly, relaxed all-day dining.
“The next eleven weeks will see major work conducted on the property to breathe a new lease of life into the historic coaching inn, whilst maintaining its Tudor architecture.
“The plans look fantastic and we’re very excited to be introducing our new Eatery and Coffee House concept, which will see the addition of locally sourced produce, contemporary twists on traditional favourites plus our popular sharing menu.”
The Golden Fleece will be launching a recruitment drive in April to appoint additional new staff members.
