New app helps consumers make healthy food choices
Following a healthy and balanced diet can be challenging and, as consumers, we are often confused by food labels and what they mean. But a brand new nutrition app is changing that…
After taking the Italian market by storm, revolutionary food and nutrition app EDO has just launched in the UK. Using a unique algorithm that analyses ingredients in the context of scientific studies and research, the app rates food on a healthiness scale of 0-10, outlines the pros & cons of food choices and analyses food labels to provide in-depth nutritional information.
EDO takes the work out of eating well and, as one of the most sophisticated food apps on the market, it helps to guide the consumer into healthier dietary choices. It has the ability to flag foods that are incompatible for people with dietary needs such as gluten intolerance, and helps users to understand food labels through a detailed analysis of vitamin, iron, fibre and calorie quantities.
EDO prides itself on providing digestible, easy to understand information and helping consumers to make informed food choices. To unlock the nutritional database users simply scan the product barcode on their phone. The app then provides instant insight for the user via its unique healthy rating system which will calculate a score between 0-10 whilst they are on-the-go, enabling the consumer to make healthier choices in a matter of seconds. The database contains thousands of products - and if a product is missing, users can send pictures of the label to the EDO team who will ensure it is added!
For those that want a more in-depth service, EDO Premium is available for subscription and includes a range of personalised, additional functions.
From a nutritional point of view, everyone has individual needs and what is healthy for one person may not be healthy for another. EDO Premium provides tailor-made results and allows users to customise the app by adding detail on their specific parameters including height, weight, physical activity level, food intolerances and whether the user is pregnant. This allows consumers to see which products are compatible with his/her needs and if the user decides a product is unsuitable, EDO will suggest healthier alternatives – easy!
The user can also see how much exercise will be needed to burn off their food choice – whether swimming, cycling, walking or running – EDO Premium uses physical parameters and the level of activity to elaborate custom results that allow users to choose what is best for the individual’s diet.
Consumers can also specify whether they want to reduce or increase the consumption of key nutrients such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, or to exclude certain additives such as preservatives, food dyes and even palm oil. For vegetarian and vegans, Edo Premium guides the user choosing products suitable for your lifestyle, excluding alternatives that contains ingredients which are unsuitable.
