Virgin Atlantic to launch only direct route between Heathrow and Barbados

UK airline Virgin Atlantic has said it is to begin operating a new route between Barbados and London Heathrow, making it the sixth new route launched by the carrier this year.

The new route is set to launch this December and will offer holidaymakers looking to catch some rays in the Caribbean two flights a week from London Heathrow, making it the only direct flight from the airport to the eastern Caribbean island.

Virgin also said that its codeshare with Jet2 would mean travellers in the UK’s regions would also be able to benefit from connecting flights to Barbados, in addition to its routes from Manchester and Gatwick.

Following the launch of the route, Virgin Atlantic’s Chief Commercial Officer, Shai Wess, commented: “The Caribbean has always been a core market for Virgin Atlantic and so we’re excited to announce we’re offering more choice to our customers with the option of flying from Heathrow, Gatwick or Manchester direct to Barbados.”

The Barbados-Heathrow link is the sixth new route established by the carrier this year, and the third from a London-based airport joining its Heathrow to Seattle and Gatwick to Varadero, Cuba routes which are also launching in 2017.
