Wings for Life partners with Actavo | Events

Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation has been appointed by Actavo | Events – a leading UK events infrastructure supplier – as a charity partner. As such, Actavo | Events will donate a percentage of its revenue – derived from all the services it provides Red Bull – to the Wings for Life charity.

Set up in 2004 by two-time, motocross world champion, Heinz Kinigadner, and Red Bull founder, Dietrich Mateschitz, Wings for Life is a charity driven by the vision to cure spinal injury by funding ground-breaking research.

Actavo | Events’ business development manager, Emily Huddart, said: “We are so proud to support Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation. We’ll be working with the charity on a range of projects throughout this year, which includes both structural event support and fundraising.”

Actavo | Events also supported the Wings for Life UK World Run 2016 as main infrastructure supplier, delivering a full turnkey, onsite, events support service – the assembly and full break-down of equipment – in a tight timeframe (four days) leading up to the event.

Working with Wings for Life World Run’s production team, Actavo | Events delivered and installed PA towers, fencing and barriers at the event hub, camera positions and 1800m of crowd barriers around the route.

Managing other suppliers where necessary, Actavo | Events worked alongside the event production team by contributing to the pre-event planning; confirming the project scope, creating site plans and conducting site visits.

The 2016 Wings for Life World Run welcomed a record 130,000 competitors across 34 global locations. In Cambridge, where the UK run took place, there were over 2,500 participants – the biggest UK number to date. Worldwide, the 2016 event raised £5.2 million, all of which goes to the Foundation with administrative and infrastructure costs covered by the charity’s founders.

All participants of the Wings for Life World Run, amateur or professional, begin at the same time wherever they are in the world and there is no set finish line. Runners keep going until they are caught by the moving finishing line that takes the form of a catcher car. The last person running is the winner.

Emily continues: “You have to be there to feel the atmosphere of this race. It’s like no other. It’s inspired our team with future fundraising ideas for this charity and the great work it does.”
