Tees Valley CA urges businesses and residents to seize Mayoral opportunity
Tees Valley residents and businesses are being urged to get involved with the region’s by having their say in who assumes the new role role of Tees Valley Mayor.
Launching the #TeesTakesControl campaign, the Tees Valley Combined Authority is hoping Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees locals will have their say in the area’s economic future when the electiont akes place on May 4.
The decision to create the role of Tees Valley Mayor, who when appointed will work with the five councils, has unlocked new funding for the area whilst decisions about transport, skills and education, homes, cultural facilities, attracting inward investment and encouraging business growth can be made locally, rather than in London.
Andrew Lewis, managing director of the Tees Valley Combined Authority, hopes residents won’t miss the opportunity to have their say.
He said: “The new Tees Valley Mayor will have powers to decide on issues that impact our daily lives – including opportunities for young people; our road, rail and bus services; and bringing new jobs and investment into our area.
“It’s important everyone’s voice is heard. This is a new opportunity to elect someone who is accountable locally, for decisions previously taken by politicians and civil servants in Whitehall and Westminster.
“We are encouraging every eligible person to register to vote, find out more about the candidates, and be sure your vote is counted on May 4.”
