Irish e-commerce retailer to create 30 new jobs after launching UK operation in Barnsley
An Irish online car parts and accessories retailer is set to launch a UK distribution centre in Barnsley, creating 30 new jobs.
MicksGarage.com, which exports products to over 70 countries worldwide, will move into a 32,000 sq ft warehouse and distribution facility on Goldthorpe Industrial Estate later this month.
The e-commerce retailer, which is headquartered in Dublin, has been supported with the expansion by Enterprising Barnsley, the business development arm of Barnsley Council.
Founded in 2004, MicksGarage.com currently employs 56 people in the UK and Ireland and lists over seven million products online, selling a wide range of car parts and accessories, including brake parts, car care, travel and leisure gear and service parts.
Ciaran Crean, CEO of MicksGarage.com, said: “When prospecting locations for our UK expansion providing faster shipping services to our UK customer base was highly important to us. Barnsley is ideally located on all of the major distribution networks, enabling expedited dispatch to all areas in the UK.
“Barnsley is also home to some of the largest, most technically modern and efficient warehousing environments in the UK and we felt this was a very natural home for our e-commerce business.”
Ciaran continued: “Enterprising Barnsley has provided us with an incredible amount of support in our international expansion. They have made a great deal of time and resources available to us, and provided us with key guidance and advice in operating in the area.
“They have put us in touch with many local trade partners, opening opportunities for us now and in the future. Their recruitment and training assistance has also been superb, and we feel that the transition to Barnsley would have been much more difficult without their help and assistance.”
Gillian Purcell, head of HR and operations at MicksGarage.com, added: “Barnsley has provided us with excellent access to talent, and we found that there was a highly skilled local workforce to help us build and grow our business.”
Enterprising Barnsley is the economic development arm of Barnsley Council and aims to help businesses develop and expand; generating economic growth and creating jobs.
Martin Beasley, group leader at Enterprising Barnsley, commented: “We are incredibly pleased to have supported MicksGarage.com with their expansion into Barnsley which will create numerous job opportunities in the town.
“We’re very much looking forward to supporting their growth plans throughout 2017.”
