Skelmersdale’s CPUK Group secures £4.5m logistics warehouse contract
Construction Partnership UK (CPUK) Group has secured a multi-million pound contract to deliver a new state-of-the-art warehouse and office facility in Salford.
The Skelmersdale-based building group was chosen by development giant Peel for a £4.5m contract to build a 50,000 sq ft HQ at the Port Salford freight terminal for freight logistics business Rhenus Logistics.
Located on the Manchester Ship Canal at the UK’s first tri-modal inland port facility, CPUK said the 3.3-acre base will enable Rhenus customers to access some of the most efficient routes into and out of the UK.
The scheme will be delivered by two CPUK Group operations, CPUK Construction and CPUK Civils and Remediation, and is due to be fully operational by the end of 2017.
Once CPUK Civils and Remediation has completed the remedial work, the two-level steel frame building will be constructed.

The development was designed by Manchester firm Bate and Taylor Architects.
Steve Burke, managing director of CPUK Group, said: “This is a high quality logistics facility that will provide a benchmark for future development on the emerging Port Salford freight terminal site.
“The contract is also another great example how CPUK Civils & Remediation is supporting the work that CPUK does on construction sites across the UK.”
He continued: “The remediation work that it has carried out on the Port Salford site has both mitigated the majority of the material that was required to be disposed from site and significantly reduced the stone imported by up to 85%, providing both time and cost savings.
“It is that all-round solution-finding approach that is helping us to win new work in all sectors.”
CPUK Group said it has achieved a strong start to the year, having already secured a £27m boost to its order book.
Speaking further, Steve commented: “We have had an exceptionally strong start to the year, with more projects also in the pipeline. It is very encouraging.
“From office refurbishment to social housing, we are involved in projects across all sectors. We’re also undertaking work outside our traditional North West base with key preferred clients, which is again pleasing.”
He added: “Through excellent client relationships and a strong record of delivery there’s a high level of repeat and negotiated business.”
