NETPark Explorer: Be part of an innovative community with a global impact.
The development of the NETPark Explorer buildings will enable companies to locate, grow and change lives, both in County Durham and all around the world.
A bold statement, but the success of NETPark in County Durham and the companies located there, is exactly why a £7.4m investment has been made in NETPark Explorer, two new buildings which will create much needed space for science, engineering and technology companies with global ambitions.
Work on this exciting new project started earlier this year with the official ground breaking event taking place last month and an expected completion date of early 2018.
Opening a little over ten years ago, NETPark has quickly become one of the crown jewels of County Durham and the North East: an asset of national importance with four national technology centres, managed by CPI, and it is the only science park in the UK with two Catapult Centres.
Known as one of the UK’s leading science and technology parks, NETPark helps to nurture companies to make a big impact on a global scale.
Products developed at NETPark are global: Kromek plc, which started as spin out from Durham University, is currently deploying a radiation sensor network in the US to protect cities from the threat of dirty bombs.
PolyPhotonix has developed a medical device that can halt the blindness associated with diabetes.
Instruments made here by Durham University will be launched into space by NASA in 2018 to help us understand the nature of the universe. All this is happening right here at NETPark in County Durham, making this a sought after location for science, engineering and technology companies.
Companies interested in locating at NETPark are encouraged to get in touch as soon as possible as space at NETPark is highly sought after.
X-ray imaging technology company, IBEX Innovations, has already working with the team to fit the available space to their requirements. IBEX started with a virtual office at NETPark and is now at the forefront of x-ray imaging technology with 17 employees. The firm’s technology is being used in industries such as medical, food and industrial imaging.
Dr Neil Loxley, Chief Executive at IBEX, said: “NETPark has proven to be a great environment for a technology start-up such as IBEX, providing high quality facilities that have been well-matched to our changing needs at different points in our growth.
“However, it is the quality of support and the friendly can-do attitude of NETPark staff that really sets NETPark apart. We are really looking forward to our move into one of the new Explorer buildings, which will provide us with the space and facilities to accommodate our next stage of development.”
NETPark Explorer will consist of two brand new buildings offering laboratory, clean room and office space, with units ranging from 3,550 sq ft to 5,000 sq ft, for world-class science, engineering and technology companies.
