Portakabin wins specialist contractor place with NHS framework

Modular building specialist Portakabin has been awarded a place on the NHS modular building framework

Portakabin was awarded a place on the four-year NHS framework for its bespoke purchase and hire buildings and varied budget public sector solutions.

The four-year NHS modular building framework aims to save money and enhance quality with a national agreement between the NHS and suppliers to cover off-site construction of modular building solutions.

The UK’s leading modular building specialist delivers on time and on budget projects from bespoke design to finished construction, including manufacture, installation, interior fittings, testing and commissioning.

One of the most complex healthcare projects delivered by Portakabin, an interim ward and theatre building at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, featured 56 new in-patient beds, two large state-of-the-art theatres and a 33 person ‘crash team’ lift. Completed and fitted out in less than four months, the building was installed in just 18 days to ensure that staff were able to deliver patient care with minimal interruption.

Derek Carter, Chief Executive of Portakabin said: “Portakabin is honoured to have been awarded a place on this framework. Our dedication to delivering the best building solution in the smallest of time frames or on the most difficult sites is true testament to the future of modular construction. We are looking forward to delivering peace of mind on every project we handle.”

The framework, which started in January 2017, encourages the use of off-site construction in healthcare due to 50% faster delivery times as well as less disruption than traditional construction; a necessity for live hospital sites.

This win comes after Portakabin was awarded a place on the Southern Modular Building Framework which was launched to secure modular buildings for public sector projects across London, the South East and South West.
