Greystar granted planning consent for new 1,900-home neighbourhood in Greenford

Plans for a new 20-acre neighbourhood in Greenford were granted full planning consent at a meeting of Ealing Council’s planning committee last night.

The scheme, which is being developed by real estate company Greystar, will deliver 1,965 new homes on the site of the former GSK and Sunblest bakery facilities in west London, creating a ‘modern, canalside neighbourhood’ with a predominant focus on rental units.

Of the 1,965 new homes, 1,439 will be available for rent with a mixture of studios, one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom apartments sprinkled across seven main buildings, in the hope of attracting a diverse community of young professionals, couples and families.

Plans for the site, which Greystar acquired in January 2016, also include shops, a supermarket, restaurants, cafes, leisure facilities and offices, along with a new two-form primary school.

Mark Allnutt, Managing Director of Multifamily at Greystar, hailed the decision of Ealing Council, which passed by 10 votes to 1, and commented: “This decision by Ealing Council is fantastic news and means we can now proceed as planned with our proposals for creating an exciting new neighbourhood in Greenford.

“We are going to provide much needed homes for rent at a time when people are looking for a better renting experience. Greenford will be a diverse rental community for young professionals, families and older people.

“By offering a variety of apartment sizes to accommodate people at different life stages, Greenford will offer a community built around renters and their needs.”

Greystar’s Greenford scheme is one of a number of major schemes currently under way in the Borough of Ealing after Berkeley Group was also given the go ahead last year for its Southall Waterside regeneration programme.
