Principal nominated for Cheshire Woman of the Year

Macclesfield College’s chief executive and principal, Rachel Kay, has been nominated for one of the region’s top titles.

The award, which dates back to 1985, recognises inspiring women from all walks of life for their personal courage, service to their community and outstanding professional achievement.

Rachel took over as chief executive and principal in September 2015 and has been leading the college toward the strategic vision of making it an outstanding education provider.

Since in post, Rachel has become a non-executive member of the Macclesfield Chamber of Commerce, has joined the Association of Colleges (AoC) North West Regional Committee, and become part of the Rail Skills Board, all of which represent Rachel’s commitment to raising the standards of education and training in the area.

As part of this commitment Rachel launched Maxim Business Training in 2015, a team of dedicated experts at the College who deliver high quality training and Apprenticeships to businesses across Cheshire.

Rachel’s appointment has also seen the College recognised at the North East Cheshire Business Awards where they received a Silver Award, and was an Education Investor Award Finalist.

Rachel Kay commented; “I feel extremely honoured and humbled to be nominated. I am really passionate about providing everyone with great educational opportunities, and working with local employers and enterprise to develop the workforce of tomorrow.

“I am looking forward to meeting the other ladies nominated who are just as passionate about Cheshire and who have made an incredible contribution to our vibrant county.”

The award winner is to be announced at a celebratory luncheon on Wednesday 29th March at Eaton Park by permission of the Duke of Westminster. Funded by Zochonis Charitable Trust, the event will raise money for the NSPCC and ChildLine in Cheshire.
