New gin festival launches in North East

Innovative gin distillers from across the North East will be showcasing their unique blends at the Planet Juniper Newcastle Gin Festival.

The newest festival on the North East gin scene will bring the opportunity to sample a choice of more than 70 gins from some of the very best small batch gins in the UK, as well as the chance to meet some of the unique, individual distillers who are leading the gin revolution.

Regional distilleries set to attend the event, at South Northumberland Cricket Club, include Durham Distillery, the Newcastle Gin Company and Gateshead-born gin company Steampunk. Lakes Distillery, where North East Entrepreneurs’ Forum chairman Nigel Mills is chairman will be bringing a range of gins, including Explorer. Wearside-based Poetic License will be launching its new strawberries and cream flavoured Picnic Gin at the event, while Northumberland’s Hepple Gin and Alnwick Gin will also be in attendance, with their gins featuring locally foraged botanicals.

Meanwhile, designated drivers will get complimentary alcohol-free gin and tonic from The Temperance Spirit Company, created with the same botanicals usually found in gin.

Mark Carton, Planet Juniper festival director, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome distilleries from across the region and beyond to the Newcastle Gin Festival, making up our collection of especially selected artisan and small batch distilleries. There are some truly incredible, totally unique gins being created in the North East and across the UK, and we’re looking forward to welcoming people to this new festival to find their own favourite.

The festival includes a hi ball glass for your gins, Fever Tree and botanical mixers, dozens of gin sampling opportunities and chances to meet the distillers, more than 70 artisan and small batch gins from across the UK, premium street food and live bands. There will be food from Dabbawal, Scream for Pizza, La Petite Creperie and The Little Fishy.

Plant Juniper’s Newcastle Gin Festival takes place from the April 7 to 9, on Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and evening, and Sunday afternoon. Tickets are £15, or discounted using the codes GIN17 for 25% off and GIN342 to get three tickets for the price of two. www.planetjuniper.co.uk
