Northern Arts College Welcomes Investment in Creative Culture

A specialist art and design college is helping to boost the region’s dynamic and thriving northern cultural scene, backing two major arts projects in the north east.

Cleveland College of Art and Design (CCAD), a leading further and higher education college with sites in Middlesbrough and Hartlepool, is a key partner in the ‘Great Place – Greater Tees’ project.

The Great Place scheme will fund a number of arts and cultural organisations across Tees Valley and support popular existing events as well as new initiatives, and CCAD joined the celebrations in securing £1.5million for the pilot scheme which will help put the Tees Valley on the cultural map.

The investment is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England, which have previously backed a number of projects led by the arts college. CCAD previously received funding from the Arts Council for its first Festival of Illustration in 2015 and has successfully bid for a second festival later this year.

Pat Chapman, Head of Employability and External Relations at CCAD, said: “CCAD is fully engaged in a number of projects across the north, with the Great Place scheme and the Festival of Illustration just two impressive examples. We are purposefully working with key partners and organisations throughout the north to support the development of the arts.

“This is a growing sector and a priority for both the Tees Valley Combined Authority and the north east LEP, and we believe that CCAD is significant player in creative industries, with its long history and track record of being the best at graduate employability in art and design.”

CCAD is looking to the future needs of the ever growing creative industries with an £11m investment in its university-level campus in Hartlepool. The college is planning to build on its success as a leading creative centre of excellence with its new multi-million site on Church Street.
