Yorkshire construction uplift sparks hunt for skilled talent

Construction professionals across Yorkshire are seeing a shift in the types of contracts available, as development moves away from multiple small projects to large construction jobs.

According to the latest data from Hays, the trend is driving a demand for skilled construction professionals across the region, as senior positions in quantity surveying, project management and health and safety are in demand to support larger developments.

Local employers are keen to have a workforce in place to support the vast projects underway including Sheffield’s retail site for Ikea, development of the HS2 Doncaster College and the regeneration of Chesterfield Waterside.

The increase comes after the Hays UK Salary & Recruiting Trends Guide 2017 revealed three-quarters of Yorkshire employers said they would be adding to their workforces over the coming year, with over a quarter stating operations and technical skills are the hardest to recruit for.
