Luxury Durham hotel to create 20 new jobs following £1m investment

Owners of the South Causey Inn near Beamish, Co Durham, have invested £1m to create a second wedding venue at the site.

Transforming the former equestrian centre into a 9000 square foot venue, The Old Barn will accommodate between 150 and 250 guests.

The Inn, which reportedly has 150 weddings booked up until 2019, will recruit over 20 new members of staff to match the upgrade, taking headcount to over 100 people.

The family-run hotel, which turns over around £3.5m annually, was taken over by Philip and Susan Moiser in 2007, in which time they have invested significantly in the business, taking bedroom numbers from 16 to 36, while introducing a wedding venue, conferencing facilities and a mini farm.

In October 2015, they converted a London Bus into luxury accommodation and in August 2016 spent a further £800k on eight ultra-luxury themed bedrooms. Each have their own private courtyard, dining area and hot tub, as well en-suite bathrooms with Jacuzzis and waterproof televisions.

Chester le Street construction company Radford Construction Services worked with the Inn to complete all refurbishment and building work.

Co-owner, Susan Moiser said “After converting the stables into luxury accommodation in 2016, the obvious next step was to transform the equestrian centre into a second wedding venue.

“We wanted to give our brides and grooms somewhere very special to hold their wedding day and with The Old Barn they have very private facilities including a ceremony room and brides dressing room for use throughout the day. It’s a very exciting time for us!”

Philip Moiser, co-owner, added “ The last couple of years have seen significant changes and investment, with our Durham Suite remaining as popular as ever for weddings. We have needed a second wedding venue for some time and I’m delighted how The Old Barn is now complete.“
