Middlesbrough coffee shop set to support Project Waterfall

A Middlesbrough-based coffee shop is set to show its support for Project Waterfall by donating 5p from every coffee sold during UK Coffee Week (10-16 April).

Over the seven days, Bedford Street Coffee House, owned by North Yorkshire-based Rounton Coffee, is also encouraging customers to participate in a range of fundraising activities to raise vital funds for coffee farmers in Africa.

UK Coffee Week is a nationwide fundraising campaign which sees trade professionals, coffee shops and their customers collaborate to celebrate the British coffee culture and raise money for communities in Tanzania, Rwanda and Ethiopia.

All funds raised during UK Coffee Week go directly to Project Waterfall, an initiative developed by the Allegra Foundation, which prides itself on bringing clean water and sanitation to coffee growing communities around the world.

Ethical sourcing and direct trade is the foundation of Rounton Coffee, as the Company works directly with farmers in several developing countries, including Tanzania and Rwanda, to ensure they get a premium price for their produce and benefit from their trade.

Co-owner of Bedford Street Coffee House and Founder of Rounton Coffee, David Beattie, said: “As we are active members of the coffee community, we have a responsibility to not only highlight important issues which impact coffee farmers, but also support them, and UK Coffee Week is the perfect opportunity to do both.

“The regions we source our coffee from depend upon clean water and Project Waterfall is actively helping and making a significant difference to the farms. We are thrilled to be able to do our bit to support our suppliers.”

David added: “We want to raise as much money as we can for this brilliant cause and we would like to encourage everyone in the local area to get involved. By simply buying a coffee you will be making a huge difference to the farmers’ lives!
