SES’ BIM innovation key to Canary Wharf contract
Leading national engineering specialist, SES Engineering Services (SES), is building on its major success in the London and South East region after winning the contract to provide mechanical services to the shell and core on a new build project in the heart of Canary Wharf.
SES has been appointed by Canary Wharf Contractors to deliver shell and core mechanical services to the 27 floors of the One Bank Street banking and office building, as well as the associated underground car park and plant areas.
The win represents a major milestone for SES’ London and South East operation and is testament to the company’s reputation for delivering innovative, cost and time saving off-site manufacturing solutions on logistically challenging city-centre projects.
SES’ market-leading digital engineering expertise was also crucial to its appointment on the scheme. As the UK’s very first M&E contractor to achieve the BRE BIM Level 2 Certification – required by Government to work on Whitehall-procured projects from April 2016 – SES’ ‘build before you build’ approach was a perfect fit for the project.
SES will be the lead co-ordinator for the main mechanical plant rooms including associated floors on this project and will provide converted consultant models to all other trade contractors, working closely with Canary Wharf Contractors to fulfil the BIM requirements on the project.
Within a tight programme, SES will utilise its engineering expertise and dedicated offsite manufacturing facility, Prism to design and deliver nearly 100 bespoke HEX units in addition to pumps skids and pre-fabricated pipework.
On a confined high-rise city centre site, the time and cost saving initiatives delivered by SES through BIM and its use of its offsite Prism facility will be critical.
David Jenkins, SES Regional Director, London and South East commented: “The need for efficient offsite testing and delivery of heavy plant items on this project is vital and this is a perfect project to harness SES’ prefabrication expertise.
“Our Prism facility is at the forefront of M&E installations, meaning we can offer the most effective solutions to even the most technically complex projects, adding real value to our clients so we’re delighted to be able to demonstrate this again on this scheme.
“This year is a hugely exciting time for our London and South East operation and the growth of our business is down to our teams’ exemplary work and innovative offsite approach.”
This contract win follows an outstanding period of growth for SES in the London and South East region. SES is currently working on its sixth innovative project, alongside Carillion and Argent, on the King’s Cross redevelopment, the largest piece of central London to be developed under a single ownership in the past 150 years.
