Clear out your closet for charity
intu Eldon Square and intu Metrocentre are encouraging shoppers to clear out their closets for charity this spring.
During April and May St Oswald’s Hospice charity bags will be available to pick up from customer service desks in both shopping centres. Customers can then take the bags home and indulge in a guilt-free wardrobe detox - bagging up unwanted clothes for a fantastic cause, whilst simultaneously streamlining their style! Donations can be dropped off at any of the twenty-nine St Oswald’s charity shops across the north east.
St Oswald’s Hospice is one of intu Eldon Square and intu Metrocentre’s charities of the year. So far, both centres have supported St Oswald’s to the value of £15,131.25, which goes towards helping improve the quality of life for everyone in the north east living with an incurable condition, as well as their families.
Karen Carr, regional marketing manager, intu, said:
“With the average person regularly wearing only 20% of the items in their wardrobe, spring is the perfect time to cull any excess items and free up space for a few select new season pieces. Whether you’re looking to hone your capsule wardrobe or revamp your look, taking time to curate your closet is key to creating a wardrobe you love.
“We’re delighted to help St Oswald’s with this initiative, which helps to ensure that their charity shops around the region are well stocked and can continue to raise valuable funds to support local families.”
Siobhan Sargeant, Corporate Fundraiser at St Oswald’s Hospice, said:
“We’re thrilled that intu has chosen St Oswald’s as Charity of the Year and we’d like to thank all of their staff, shoppers and retailers who are supporting us through this exciting partnership.
“We’re delighted and very grateful we are able to organise a ‘Bag It!’ campaign as part of this support. Bag It! helps us to generate good quality stock which we then sell on in our charity shops around the region, helping to raise vital funds towards our work. Items such as women’s, men’s and children’s clothing as well as accessories are all welcomed. If supporters wish to donate larger items, they can contact our collection line on 0191 246 8123 or visit our website to find out more.
“This year, St Oswald’s is celebrating #30yearsofcare so this support is extra special to us during our anniversary. We’d like to thank everyone for their ongoing support.”
