Building College students enjoy award winning service

Leeds College of Building’s Student Liaison Officer, Denis Metcalf faced fierce competition from across the UK to win the prestigious Team Member of the Year Award at the National Association of Managers of Student Services (NAMSS) annual award ceremony.

NAMSS provides support to Student Service Managers and their teams across more than 300 UK colleges and is a key stakeholder for consultation by Government departments. In addition to Denis’s award, Leeds College of Building’s Student Services Team came third in the Team of the Year Award, at the annual awards ceremony which was held at Liverpool’s Hilton Hotel.

Denis, who has worked at Leeds College of Building for 14 years, says: “To have won this award for a job I thoroughly enjoy doing is a real honour. It’s hugely rewarding to see our students continually succeeding and maximising their potential at College, and our entire team is dedicated to this goal, so we’re delighted to have our efforts recognised at these coveted awards.”

Ian Billyard, Principal at Leeds College of Building, which is the UK’s only specialist further education construction college, adds: “We’re extremely proud of our Student Services Team who do a sterling job to ensure that our 7,000 students are safe, happy and fulfilled, both in and out of College. The team also plays a vital role in making sure everyone makes the most of their time at College, and there’s no doubt they have a strong influence on our students’ qualifications and careers. It’s fantastic to see them do so well in these awards and Denis in particular deserves special recognition for being such a positive and prominent member of the team.”

Leeds College of Building offers more than 200 courses across a huge range of disciplines, and has built up a reputation for first-rate education and training. The College is an approved Apprenticeship Levy provider and offers a wide range of Apprenticeships in traditional trades and technical Apprenticeship routes, together with two Higher Level Apprenticeships in Construction Management (Sustainability) covering four Pathways (Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering) and Facilities Management which offer university equivalent work based education.
