Speedy celebrate double safety gold
Speedy, the UK’s leading tools, equipment and plant hire services company, has received a double safety boost by securing two gold-standard safety awards.
For the third year running, Speedy has secured the top level accreditation for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Health and Safety Awards while it has also been awarded gold status by The Fleet Operators Recognition Scheme (FORS).
Now in its 61st year, the RoSPA award is in recognition of Speedy’s overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
The awards mark achievement at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels. Gold medals, president’s awards and orders of distinction are presented to organisations sustaining the high standards of the gold level over consecutive years.
Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of awards and events, said: “The RoSPA Awards are the most prestigious in the world of occupational health and safety, and held in high regard around the world, as winning one demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record. Achieving the standard required is no mean feat.”
The FORS accreditation is open to all fleet operators with gold level requirements primarily involving the implementation of best practice measures, including promoting the FORS standards through your supply chains alongside those within the in-house fleet. Speedy’s vehicle fleet consists of some 1,400 vehicles spread around 193 operating centres. Steve Giblin, Speedy’s Group HSSEQ Director said: “These accreditations are important to our business as they send a message that we are serious about occupational safety. They also demonstrate both that we match our words with actions and that we take our responsibilities seriously. “It is gratifying to be recognised in this way but we’ll only maintain our safety culture through ongoing innovation and maintaining our focus on operational safety and people’s health.”
Speedy launched its Intelligent Safety programme in 2016. It is a free online resource dedicated to raising awareness, knowledge and skills across key safety themes for the construction industry. These include: dust control, hand arm vibration and working at height. Intelligent Safety includes the latest health and safety information, videos, toolbox talks, industry news, and specific product/ service recommendations. It is free to use.
